Amrita Vidyalayam

Annual Report

Overview

Gaining mastery over the mind is the real education: Only if that education is gained will we be able to make wise use of all the other fields in today’s world.

With the compassionate grace of our beloved AMMA, Satguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi, our school started functioning with 1480 students

for the Academic year 2018-19. The real value and the aim of education, as visioned by AMMA, is practiced and taught to the children. We in Amrita Vidyalayam aim at the holistic growth of students. As we realize that gaining knowledge is not just studying, equal importance is given to extracurricular activities like sports, martial art, yoga, art & craft, music, dance, dramatics, meditation, bhajans, Vedic chanting etc.

Teaching in today’s mixed-ability classroom is a challenge. It is a dynamic environment, bringing together students from different backgrounds with various abilities and personalities. We implement the creative and innovative teaching strategies in order to meet students’ individual needs.

We are humble to place on record our initiatives, accolades and achievements.

The following is the brief annual report for the year 2018-19.

The School was inaugurated by Poojaneeya Vinayamrita Chaitanya Swamiji, the Correspondent, on the auspicious day of 5th April 2018. The inaugural function started with the lighting of the lamp followed by AMMA’s Ashtothram and Satsang by Swamiji.

1. Assembly:

The Morning Assembly is an essential part of the school schedule. Amrita’s assembly fosters the spirit of group activity, leadership and value building. We start with Dhyana sloka and the children quote Amma’s message, News headlines and recite Thirukkural with its explanation.  Everyday a specialized format is followed to give ample opportunities to the children to express themselves through multifarious activities.

2. Classrooms:

Amrita Vidyalayam provides a complete joyful learning atmosphere with spacious and ventilated classrooms. The classrooms are supported with smart boards. The classroom activities are always tailored to the topic to keep up the learning spirit of the children.

3. Library:

The most important asset of any school is its library. Books are considered to be the main sources through which imbibing knowledge can be accomplished. We have well-furnished and spacious library with varied collection of 4,300 books both for the students and the teachers.

4. Playground:

Sports and games play an essential role in the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being of children right from the stage of early childhood. We are proud to have a vast playground with enough infrastructure for development of sports and games within the campus.

5. Play Area:

Play contributes the fine and gross motor development and body awareness as they actively use their body parts. Our tiny tots have a separate place for them to enjoy with various play sets to nurture a happy spirit in them.

6. Transport:

The school provides transport facility for the benefit of students commuting from distant places and ensure their safety journey. We have well experienced drivers and responsible attenders taking care of the children.

Moving on to the CURRICULUM…….

7. Kindergarten Methodologies:

An ideal kindergarten classroom is a safe environment that provides ample

opportunity for children to play, which in turn develops confidence and social skills.

Our KG methodologies are based on self – directed activity, hands on learning and collaborative play. Our classroom activities nurture each child’s individual strengths and interests. We encourage children to explore their world in their own pace.

In Pre KG, there is a lot of scope to develop gross motor and fine motor skills. They are trained with many rhymes, stories, slokas, Thirukkural and general conversation.

In LKG, Children learn English alphabets (Small and Capital Letters), Numbers till 50, and they are exposed orally to basic environmental studies. The phonetic sound of each letter is also taught through various rhymes.

Initially they start writing strokes and are encouraged to do varied activities to develop their fine motor skills, which in turn help them to develop writing skills.

In UKG, apart from English and Mathematics additionally they learn both Tamil and Hindi. Slowly they are practiced to read and write three letter words.

To build these foundations, our teachers implement several teaching methods that challenge students to express themselves while learning. They also offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. We ensure that our KG classes maintain the right balance between fun and learning.

8. Smart Board Class Rooms:

In order to improve teacher effectiveness and productivity in class and to bring abstract and difficult curriculum concepts into life inside classrooms and make learning an enjoyable experience we provide smart classes to our children. The use of technology to impart education through ‘Extramarks’ is one of our highlights, which is used regularly by our teachers.

9. Laboratories:

At Amrita, we have well equipped Science lab, Math lab and Computer lab to expose our students to project based learning.

10. Assessments:

Assessments are very essential as they measure students’ achievement in order to maximize the students’ learning and to modify instruction according to the individual needs. We have six periodic assessments for Classes I and II at periodic intervals. From Class III onwards, we have four periodic assessments, quarterly examination, Half yearly examination and finally Annual examination which is to be held shortly.

11. Parents Teachers Meeting:

After each assessment we conduct Parents teachers meeting as it is an opportunity to exchange observation of a child with each other. Sharing daily experience and observation provide a wider prospect for parent and teacher to plan, prepare and execute planning for better learning outcome of a child.
